Approximately 7 million years ago, the Strait of Gibraltar was opened and, with a gigantic waterfall, the Mediterranean Basin was filled with water from the Atlantic Ocean. That is why the animals of the Mediterranean Sea and the eastern Atlantic Ocean are closely related. This book presents 820 species of coastal invertebrates with more than 1,000 photographs taken underwater. Many of these species have never been photographed before, others are recent findings and some are still undiscovered.
